Gathering Dust

Sara K. Lyons

"We drove past a fireworks warehouse the size of a cathedral, and at least three bundles of fatality markers: small white crosses and plastic flowers gathering dust on the side of the road."
Dark Places, Gillian Flynn, © 2009

The term "fatality marker" was new to me and led to an internet search revealing a fair amount of discussion about the difference between a roadside marker vs. a memorial. An American Legion program in Montana is outlined here. has a story about a variety of memorials/markers. And, this article talks about Florida's approach to fatality markers and safety.

Maybe time to plan a road trip?
