Last Alive (Roadside)
The images in the Last Alive series are a developing, re-photographic document of roadside memorials and fatality markers. Many elaborate and others spare, these visible tributes are evidence of evolving grief rituals particularly for those who have experienced an abrupt loss. Current academic and legal discourse surrounding the emotional and environmental significance of the “last alive place” sustains my interest in photographing these subjects. And, the loss of my father in a highway accident makes the work a personal meditation on impermanence, immortality, and faith.
